What to Expect

Brandywine Hundred is the regional library for northern New Castle County — a 40,000-square-foot building that opened in 2003 with more than 150,000 items, study rooms, and meeting space. What makes it a family stop is where it sits: inside Talley Day Park, which has a large ADA-accessible playground, so story time and outdoor play are one trip. The under-five calendar is unusually deep — Book Babies Stay & Play, Toddler Tales, KinderSkills Story Time, Jitterbugs Music & Movement, PreK S.T.R.E.A.M., PAWS Read to the Dogs, and a W.E.L.L.S. Little Amigos Storytime with LanguageU. Teens get their own hangouts and a leadership council. Free, with sign-up on some programs. Closed Thursdays and Sundays.

Who It's Best For

The programming skews young — babies through pre-K get Book Babies, Toddler Tales, KinderSkills, Jitterbugs, and PreK S.T.R.E.A.M. Teens have their own lane with Teen Hangout, a Leadership Council, and volunteer info sessions.

Food & Snacks

Pro Tips

  • ✓ Closed Thursdays and Sundays year-round — the two most likely days to get burned.
  • ✓ Check the calendar before you go; several story times need sign-up and the teen programs shift days.
  • ✓ Bring outdoor clothes. The playground is the second half of this trip, not an afterthought.

When to Go

Best Time to Visit

Most of the little-kid programs land on weekdays — check the calendar for times — and the playground is right there afterward. Mon–Wed stay open until 9pm; Friday closes at 1pm, Thursday is closed, and Sunday runs 1–5pm.

Seasonal Notes

As of September 8: Mon–Wed 10am–9pm, Thu closed, Fri 10am–1pm, Sat 10am–5pm and Sun 1pm–5pm.

Rainy Day?

Free and indoors, with a story time on most weekdays — the playground half just waits for a dry day.

While You're in the Area

Talley Day Park's playground is on the same property.
