What to Expect
Funland is the heart of the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk and a genuine Delaware institution — the only amusement park in the state, and a family-run one that's been a multi-generation beach ritual since 1962. The model is refreshingly simple: there's no gate, no admission, no all-day mega-ticket required. You walk in off the boardwalk for free, buy tickets at 75 cents each, and pay only for the rides your kid actually wants. For a family with one cautious toddler and one ride-everything 8-year-old, that's exactly right.
There are twenty rides spanning the whole age range — Funland's own description starts with The Boats, where most of its youngest riders begin, alongside gentle classics like the carousel and Fire Engines (five of the rides have run since the Fasnacht family took over in 1962), and runs up to bumper cars, the SuperFlip 360, and FreeSpin for bigger kids, teens, and the occasional parent. The custom-built Haunted Mansion dark ride is the one everyone remembers. It's closed for a full rebuild in 2027, with the reimagined version expected in 2028. Add 11 midway games and you've got a classic boardwalk evening.
A few logistics: in summer 2026 rides didn't start until 1 PM (the midway games opened earlier, at 10 AM, through late August), so plan on an afternoon-and-evening outing and check the 2027 schedule once it's posted. If your kid wants to ride nonstop, the $26.00 unlimited-ride wristband (good 1:00-4:30 PM) is the value play; otherwise a ticket book keeps it cheap, and unused tickets are good for life, so a leftover book carries to next summer. It's about an hour and 40 minutes from Wilmington — a beach-day finale rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with the sand, the boardwalk food, and the lights, and it's the quintessential Delaware summer night.
Who It's Best For
Truly all ages. Toddlers start on the gentle classics — the Boats, the carousel, the Fire Engines. Preschoolers and early-elementary kids work up to the bigger kid rides and the bumper cars. Tweens and teens go for the thrill rides (SuperFlip 360, FreeSpin), then hit the midway games. The Haunted Mansion is closed for its rebuild in 2027. Because you pay per ride, you can tailor it to exactly what your kid is ready for and spend accordingly.

Most ages (Funland: "frightening fun for most ages")The dark ride custom-built for Funland, and the one everyone remembers. It's closed for the 2027 season while it's rebuilt; Funland expects the reimagined version to debut in 2028.
The 1962 originals
Ages 1-6Five rides have run since the Fasnacht family bought the park in 1962 — the Merry Go Round, Boats, Fire Engines, Sky Fighters, and Helicopters. The gentle classics for the littlest riders.
Pay-per-ride, no gate
All agesFree to walk in; tickets at 75 cents each. You pay only for what your kids ride — uniquely flexible for a family with a big age spread.
Thrill rides & bumper cars
Ages 8+SuperFlip 360, FreeSpin, and bumper cars give the bigger kids and teens their own reason to be here.
Midway games
All ages11 midway games (Skee-Ball, Balloon Bust) — the boardwalk-classic chaser after the rides.
What to Skip with Little Ones
- • Arriving before 1 PM expecting rides. In summer 2026 rides didn't start until 1, and in the season's last weeks the games often waited until 1 too.
- • Buying a fistful of single tickets for a ride-everything kid — the 1:00-4:30 PM unlimited wristband is cheaper if they'll ride a lot.
- • Parking stress on a summer weekend night — come earlier or park back and walk the boardwalk in.

Free entry
There's no gate admission — Funland says entry is free, and you buy ride tickets as you go. Single tickets are $0.75 each; smaller kid rides cost 1-3 tickets, bigger thrill rides 4-6. Ticket books are 25 for $18.75, 50 for $33.00, and 100 for $55.00 — worth knowing that the 25 book works out to the same 75 cents a ticket as buying singles, so the per-ticket savings only start at the 50 book (66 cents) and 100 book (55 cents). The Unlimited Ride Wristband is $26.00 and is good from 1:00 to 4:30 PM. Unused tickets don't expire — Funland says its tickets are good for life, so leftovers come back next year. Cash, credit card, and contactless payment such as Apple Pay all work.
Membership tip: No membership. If your kid will ride hard between 1:00 and 4:30, the $26.00 Unlimited Ride Wristband beats singles once they're past roughly 34 tickets' worth of riding — about eleven small 3-ticket rides, or about six of the bigger 4-6 ticket ones. For a quick stop, singles or a ticket book keep it cheap, and anything you don't use is still good next season.
Getting There
Parking
No dedicated lot — Funland is on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, so use metered street parking or the municipal/private lots that serve the beach (paid, in season). Arrive early on summer weekends.
Beach-town parking is the real cost of the day. Come earlier in the afternoon for a closer spot, or park a few blocks back and walk the boardwalk in. Check the City of Rehoboth Beach parking rules for meter hours and permit options.
Entrance
Walk in straight off the boardwalk at the foot of Delaware Avenue — no gate, no ticket to enter. Buy ride tickets (or a wristband) at the booth.
Parent Logistics
It's on the flat boardwalk, so a stroller rolls fine to and around Funland. Inside the ride area it's tighter and busy at night; you may want to park the stroller while the kids ride. Check the posted height restrictions for ride eligibility.
Public restrooms are available along the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk near Funland.
Use the boardwalk's public restrooms for changes; plan ahead, as a boardwalk amusement spot has limited dedicated facilities.
Limited — it's an open boardwalk amusement area. Bring hats and sunscreen for a sunny afternoon; evenings are cooler and the lights are part of the fun.
Food & Snacks
Funland has its own snacks, and it's surrounded by the full Rehoboth boardwalk food scene — fries, ice cream, pizza, and Thrasher's just steps away.
Snack strategy: You're on the boardwalk — lean into it. Do rides, then graze the boardwalk classics (Thrasher's fries, Kohr Bros, Grotto pizza). Bring water for a hot afternoon between rides.
Pro Tips
- ✓ The $26.00 unlimited wristband (good 1:00-4:30 PM) is the best value for an all-in kid.
- ✓ For a quick stop, single tickets or a ticket book keep it cheap — you only pay per ride.
- ✓ Don't stress about buying too many tickets: Funland says its tickets are good for life, so a leftover book works next summer.
- ✓ The ticket booth closes before the rides do. In peak summer 2026 it shut at 10:15 PM, with rides ending by 10:30 PM. Buy your last tickets early.
- ✓ Don't plan the night around the Haunted Mansion in 2027. It's closed for its rebuild, and Funland expects it back for 2028.
- ✓ Check posted height restrictions before queuing so no one gets turned away at the gate.
- ✓ Lean into the boardwalk — Thrasher's fries and ice cream are steps away; make it a beach-day finale.
Questions parents ask
Is Funland free to get into?
Yes. Funland's ticket page says entry to the park is free — you walk in off the boardwalk with no gate and no admission charge. You only pay for what your kids actually ride, plus the midway games if you do those. For a family with a wide age spread, that's the single best thing about the place.
How much are Funland tickets, and how do they work?
Rides run on tickets rather than a gate price. A single ticket is $0.75. Books are 25 for $18.75, 50 for $33.00, and 100 for $55.00 — worth knowing that the 25 book works out to the same 75 cents a ticket as buying singles, so the real per-ticket savings start at the 50 book (66 cents) and 100 book (55 cents). Smaller kid rides cost 1-3 tickets; the bigger thrill rides are 4-6. Funland takes cash, credit cards, and contactless payment such as Apple Pay.
Do unused Funland tickets expire?
No. Funland's ticket page says its tickets are good for life — if you don't use them all this year, bring them back next year. So overbuying a book isn't the mistake it would be at most parks.
Is there a Funland wristband, and is it worth it?
There's one wristband on the price list: an Unlimited Ride Wristband for $26.00, good from 1:00 to 4:30 PM. At 75 cents a ticket, $26.00 is about 34 tickets' worth of riding — roughly eleven of the small 3-ticket kid rides, or about six of the bigger 4-6 ticket ones. If your kid will out-ride that in those three and a half hours, the wristband wins. For a shorter stop, singles or a ticket book are cheaper.
What time does Funland open?
Funland opens for the 2027 season on Saturday, May 8. Daily hours for 2027 aren't posted yet. In peak summer 2026 the midway games opened at 10 AM and the rides at 1 PM, and in the season's last weeks both often waited until 1 PM or later. The Unlimited Ride Wristband covers 1:00–4:30 PM. Check funlandrehoboth.com/schedule before you go.
What time does Funland close at night?
It varies by night and by point in the season, and the ticket booth always closes before the rides do. In peak summer 2026 the booth closed at 10:15 PM, rides stopped by 10:30 PM, and games ran to no later than 11 PM. Late in the season the booth closed earlier, as early as 8:15 PM. Buy your last tickets well ahead of the booth cutoff.
When does Funland reopen?
Saturday, May 8, 2027. The 2026 season ended Sunday, September 13, and the park is closed until then. If you have leftover tickets, hang on to them. Funland says its tickets are good for life, so they'll work next season.
Is the Haunted Mansion open in 2027?
No. Funland says 2026 was the final summer of the original Haunted Mansion. The ride is closed for the summer of 2027 while it's rebuilt with Jim Melonic, who designed the original, and the reimagined version is expected to debut for the 2028 season. The park notes the timeline is subject to change.
When to Go
Best Time to Visit
Afternoons and evenings. In summer 2026 rides didn't start until 1 PM. The $26.00 unlimited wristband is good from 1:00 to 4:30 PM and is the value play for a kid who wants to ride nonstop. Evenings have the boardwalk-at-night magic. Weekday afternoons are calmer than summer weekend nights.
Seasonal Notes
The 2026 season ended Sunday, September 13, and Funland is closed until Opening Day 2027, which the park has posted as Saturday, May 8. The 2027 day-by-day calendar isn't up yet. In 2026 the park ran daily through Labor Day, then finished with a short run of evening and weekend openings into mid-September, so hours at the edges of the season are shorter. One big change for 2027: the Haunted Mansion is closed all summer while it's rebuilt, and Funland expects the reimagined ride to debut for the 2028 season (the park notes the timeline could change). Confirm the current calendar at funlandrehoboth.com/schedule before you go.
Rainy Day?
It's an open-air boardwalk park — rides pause for rain and storms. A drizzle might clear the lines, but save Funland for a clear afternoon or evening; on a washout, the boardwalk's indoor arcades are the backup.
While You're in the Area
You're on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk — pair Funland with the beach itself, the boardwalk food (Thrasher's, Kohr Bros, Grotto), and a stroll to the Bandstand for free summer concerts. Cape Henlopen State Park is minutes away for a calmer nature half-day.
