Things to do in Hockessin & Pike Creek with kids
The Hockessin–Pike Creek corner is quieter and greener than the rest of the county, and it has a few real gems for families. This is what we'd do with kids out this way. Facts come from each place's page.
1. Ashland Nature Center
Hockessin
Free trails through woods, meadow, and marsh — our outdoor starting point in Hockessin. The Butterfly Habitat is a warmer-month attraction, not a winter promise.
2. Mt. Cuba Center
Hockessin
A native-plant garden with rolling terrain and mulched paths. The 2026 garden season runs through November 22; bring all-terrain stroller wheels or a carrier.
3. Coverdale Farm Preserve
Greenville
A free working-farm visit in Greenville, with animals along the farm trail. Regular farm visitation is Friday–Sunday, April–November; check programs separately for a winter visit.
4. Carousel Park & Equestrian Center
Wilmington
Horses, ponds, trails, and a playground on the Pike Creek side — 200 county acres with an actual stable.
5. Hockessin Library
Hockessin
Free kids' programs and story times — a useful indoor stop. Closed Thursdays, with a short Friday window (10 AM–1 PM); check the branch calendar before heading out.
