Thanksgiving weekend with kids in New Castle County
Thanksgiving weekend is four days of kids at home, relatives in town, and a lot of places closed on Thursday. This list pulls the dated events from our calendar — turkey trots, tree lightings, the first Santa appearances, Black Friday alternatives — grouped by area. It fills in during November; before then, the live calendar and the indoor-activities guide are the better bets.

Questions parents ask
What's open for kids on Thanksgiving Day near Wilmington?
Not much — many places close Thanksgiving Day, Winterthur among them. The big exception is Longwood Gardens: A Longwood Christmas starts Nov. 20, and Longwood lists the gardens as open daily, 10 a.m.–11 p.m., through Jan. 10. Thanksgiving is a non-peak date ($45 adults; kids 4 and under free); buy timed tickets ahead. Friday through Sunday has far more, and this list shows what's dated.
